Hamilton Heights

neighborhood guide

Named after Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, the tree-lined streets of this historic district, which inspired Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical In the Heights, boasts some of the city’s most beautiful row houses and continues to attract young creatives. A center of the Harlem Renaissance, notable residents of the Heights include Count Basie, Norman Rockwell, Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, and rapper A$AP Ferg?as well as John Audubon, whose eponymous society is behind the series of colorful bird murals dotting the neighborhood. A big draw for families is Riverbank State Park, an indoor-outdoor athletic complex with a greenhouse, a carousel, and promenade views of the George Washington Bridge.
